Description
**First Time At Auction**
Latin America, Mexico, ca. early 20th century CE. A lovely retablo, painted on heavy gauge tin, depicting the winged Archangel San Miguel (Saint Michael) assuming his role of general of Heaven's angels. He is dressed beautifully in a feathered helmet and a battle dress of rich jewel tone red, blue, and green hues; he also has billowing feathery wings and is holding a cross-shaped staff in one hand and the scales of justice in the other. Pierced near the top for suspension. Size: 5" W x 7" H (12.7 cm x 17.8 cm).
Provenance: ex-Kurquhill's Gallery, El Paso, Texas, USA; ex-private El Paso, Texas, USA collection, acquired early to mid 1970s

Condition
Some bending, surface wear with pigment losses, and oxidation commensurate with age, as shown on obverse as well as reverse. Perforated near top. A piece of tape with "56" in black marker as well as an old collection sticker are adhered to reverse.
