Antique Rain Drum . Also known as a Kha or Frog Drum, similar to the Dong-Son Drums (Heger Type 1) from the Dong-Son Culture of today's Northern Vietnam (600 BC - 300 AD). Produced with the symbolic function of Fertility, Kha drums make a unique sound when left out in the monsoon rains of the region, struck by the falling raindrops. Characteristic banded decoration with numerous geometric symbols. The top includes the characteristic star form in the central rosette, similar to a Dharmachakra. Thick, heavy, free cast bronze. Traditional manner of production and design. Double-handled on each side. Antique, 19th century, from the Karen People of Northern Thailand.
