Antique purse-like container, made to store snuff and/or spices and herbs, used in rituals by the Tsonga people of today's South Africa and southern Mozambique. Characteristic form, similar to Tsonga Headresses. Hinged top lid.Hand hammered wrought iron swiveling handle.Reference: A similar-form snuff box and headdress is on display at the British Museum collection. Original antique artifact - late 19th/early 20th century.
