Description
Near pair of plates. Fine white soft-paste porcelain. Both hand painted, display Cherub scenes in Manganese Violet/Red (Mulberry) by the hand of the prominent artist Henri-Joseph Duvivier (1736-1771), who was employed in the factory during 1763–71 period. Yellow-painted border scenes, scalloped edges and dark red accenting.Basket-weave texture on the borders. Both well marked on the undersides in underglaze blue with the Crossed Sword and small cross arrangement marks of Tournai. The porcelain factory in Tournai (Dornick), Wallonia, Belgium was founded in 1751 by F.J. Peternick and produced highest-quality porcelain in the manner of Sevres (France) and Meissen (Germany). The crossed-sword arrangement marks were used in the period 1756-1781.
