Latin America, Guatemala, Quiche Highlands, Nahuala, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A finely-carved wooden market table made for carrying to the market so merchants could properly display their wares. The desk has four rectangular legs with bulb-shaped feet and each with a few carved rings, a rectangular cutting surface comprised of two planks, and a small drawer with a petite drilled opening for a handle. The top of the desk exhibits hundreds of small gouge marks which shows its extensive use. Most of the surfaces are coated in a smooth and lustrous patina, and the inside of the drawer face is embellished with green paint. Size: 13" L x 20.25" W x 11.875" H (33 cm x 51.4 cm x 30.2 cm).

Condition
Drawer is likely a replacement for the original. Surface wear commensurate with age, fading to some carved details especially on legs, some separation to top planks, with small chips and nicks across most surfaces, and hundreds of small gouge marks to writing surface. Light earthen deposits and lustrous patina throughout.
