Description
Christian plaque, all hand carved from a single Mother-of-Pearl shell. Displays the Nativity scene, depicting the Birth of Jesus with the Star of Bethlehem above. Made for wealthy Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem and the Holy Land during the mid to third quarter of the 19th century. Convex with a pierced tip up top for hanging and display. Provenance - shown on London Antiques Roadshow 04/06/2001 and dated by the reviewing specialist to the 1860's.
