Unique Genuine Haxby US-1 John Draper Imprint First Bank Branch Payable $50 Proof The Haxby & Newman Plate Note
Haxby US-1. The (First) Bank of the United States, Philadelphia. Fifty Dollars. Genuine. John Draper Imprint, "Payable at Office of Discount & Deposite in____." 1790s. The Haxby Plate Note & The Newman Plate Note. Proof. Choice Very Fine.
Haxby US-1 G408 Design 50C. PRF High Rarity-7. The historic Unique Haxby Plate Note, and also The Newman Plate Note, shown illustrated on page 368. Plate N. Printed in black on thick card stock. Imprint of J.(ohn) Draper. Bottom, slightly left of center is an American Heraldic Eagle and Shield vignette. Left end, DEPARTMENT in cartouche. Plate letter top center, flanked by "50" counters. Haxby US-1 G408 Design 50C. This is yet another series type for the branch offices. Another remarkable specimen and once again of the highest rarity. An extremely important engraved imprint piece and seems to lend clues to some of non-imprinted proofs from this period from this series and other early banks due to the style of workmanship and level of "associations." Unique and one of the Earliest Genuine Proof Notes from the Obsolete banknote field of the early Federal Period. Likely the only genuine format this note will be encountered in as it would be hard to imagine a genuine issued branch note of this style still existing. Slightly creased, faint handling and moderate scattered foxing evident. There is small piece of early wove paper that is with the note penned "Engraved by John Draper" with a second hard to read notation. A remarkable and highly important opportunity to collect such an enigmatic banknote. Ex: Stack's "52 Sale" of June 29, 2010, Lot 5778 which sold at $11,212.
