Description
Fine Isfahan Pictorial Rug, Persia, late 19th c. Depicting two royal gatherings. Upper section: the court of Shah Abbas (1571-1629) filled with attendants and dancers. Lower section: a similar scene in the court of Hoshang Shah (Alp Khan) (1406-35), the first formally appointed Islamic king of the Malwa region of Central India. Inscription at the top of the upper section credits Master Weaver Morteza. Size: 4'9'' x 7'2'' (145 x 218 cm). Very good condition, a small bit of pile loss in the lower left corner. Weight:12 lbs.
