Description
Unusual 1970's diorama made for the Mott's museum titled "KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS OR…." The bleakness of the Christmas Alley scene is intentional, Herein lies the real value of the piece. In and around this alley way, a dismal scene unfolds with garbage littered around a trash can as fodder to a pack of hungry alley cats. To the right, an abandoned Christmas tree lays, discarded for trash. Assembled by Elizabeth Mott, the background building is made of real red brick and mortar. The moral expressed here is an admonition to all who have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas: the REAL reason for the celebration. In essence, this message is a reminder that "trashing" Christmas by celebrating for the wrong reasons brings unsatisfying, even disastrous results. The alley contains electrical lines, lamp, meter and fuse box, discarded Christmas wrapping, bricks, trash and a broken tiny dollhouse. The sidewalk with grate and sewer cover is signed "'74 c Michael Garman". The diorama is electrified for lighting and is housed in a wood and Plexiglas case measuring 32.5"W, 27"H, 10"D
