Ancient Europe, central to northwestern region, Celtic, Iron Age, ca. 4th to 1st century BCE. A simple yet elegant 21K+ gold torq (sometimes torc or torque) bracelet of an open circular form with conical termini and flattened ends. The band of the bracelet narrows slightly between the termini and midsection, and the middle bulges lightly outwards. The Celtic world spanned much of the central, western, and northern regions of ancient Europe, shrinking to a fringe area around the north and west as it came into contact with the Romans and other Germanic peoples. The Celtic culture is known for curved metalwork as is evident with this example. A gorgeous example of wearable ancient gold!
