This is a spectecular, rarer, panoramic birds eye view of Sydney. It portrays the city across the harbor identifying the Entrance to the Harbour, Exhibition Building, Observatory, Balmain and the Parmatta River. The title reads "First Settled By Commodore Phillip, January 26, 1788, with 927 Persons. - Population of the Colony June, 1879, 712,019." Woodblock panoramic views of cities were very popular at the time and often were supplements to leading journals, The Graphic in this case.
