Europe, Baroque, ca. 17th century CE. A finely carved, painted, and gessoed cherub or angel with a theatrical presence characteristic of the Baroque period. Most likely intended as an architectural decoration, this cherub boasts elaborately hand-carved wings, facial features, and a wavy coiffure, all nicely polychromed. A richly symbolic piece! Size: 10" W x 10" H (25.4 cm x 25.4 cm)
