Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A mold-formed pottery ithyphallic figure seated atop an integral rectangular plinth in a classic banqueter pose. The man rests with one arm bent to his head, wears a vertically-striated tunic, and has his legs bent outward from his torso. His enormous phallus wraps around the front of his body and has a bulbous tip which rested upon at one time. The body, head, legs, and phallus are detailed with applied red slip, and the tunic exhibits traces of thick white pigment within the grooves. Custom wooden display stand included. Repaired from multiple pieces with some light adhesive residue along break lines. Minor nicks and losses to one arm, areas of base, legs, and phallus, fading to original pigmentation, and softening to some finer details. Light earthen deposits and nice traces of original pigmentation throughout.
