Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Moche, ca. 400 CE. A mold-made blackware fertility vessel depicting a squatting, perhaps birthing, nude female - her bent legs spread apart and surrounding an opening at the vagina through which a ceremonial liquid could be filled and poured as a libation - perhaps to ensure a healthy birth or bring about fertility. Size: 6.5" H (16.5 cm)
