Italian Rococo Parcel-Gilt Mirror

fourth quarter 18th century, the rectangular plate edged with rocaille work and framed with scrollwork decorated with flowerheads, the chinoiserie crest molded and decorated with flowerheads.

In overall very good condition. The piece exhibits rubbing and wear to the gilt and ebonizing, some quality touch-ups, shrinkage and indications of routine past repairs, most notably a repaired break to the crest that is not visible from the front of the mirror. The back now mounted on the mirror frame behind the plate is now cardboard. The old plate exhibits substantial occlusions, fogging and irregularities in the silvering, creating an attractive patina.
