Italian Walnut Commode

late 18th century, the banded and bowed top quarter-veneered and above a conforming case fitted with four long drawers, all banded, the sides banded en suite, raised on cabriole legs.

In overall good to very good condition. The piece exhibits shrinkage cracks, mars, dings and wear consistent with age and use. There are a number of past veneer repairs, most to the perimeter banding on the drawers, and some on the top. The case exhibits no side-to-side or fore/aft movement. There is some lifted and flaking finish to the molded edge on the top. The top drawer retains a lock that is loose. There is one other old lock on the remaining drawers, the others are missing their locks. No key. There is a veneer loss along the bottom horizontal banding on one drawer, about 1/2" x 1". There is a loss to the stringing on the side of the case, about 1/4" in diameter. There is a small vertical splinter loss on the bottom edge of the apron, about 1/8" x 1-3/4".
