Description
Details: This lot consists of the original drawings by twentieth-century illustrator/designer Harry Kane shown in the corresponding images.
One of these original drawings features a ship at sea on the left and a tribesman with spear on the right. Another original drawing, with two teenagers dancing, is artist signed. Two of these pieces are different renditions of the same concept drawing.
Kane was born Harry Kirchner in 1912 to Russian-Jewish immigrant parents in Philadelphia. He began his career as a commercial artist during the Great Depression, when he relocated to New York City and sold his first illustrations to Street and Smith Publications. In addition to freelance advertisements for such corporations as Philip Morris, Schlitz Beer, and Seagram's, Kane contributed illustrations to a variety of pulp magazines and books, including "Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators". During World War II, he was drafted and stationed in Hawaii as a mapmaker for the army. After the end of the war, he continued taking freelance assignments until the 1980s. He passed away in 1988.
