Europe, United Kingdom, Victorian Period, ca. 19th century CE. A black/dark brown and white sardonyx cameo, showing the bust of a powerful, mature man with a fulsome beard in profile. The cameo uses the natural tones of the stone to great effect, so that the man appears to wear a large sprig in his hair. Perhaps this is meant to be Zeus or Hercules. The cameo is set into a contemporary 18 karat gold pendant. Strung with modern cord to create a wearable necklace. Size of cameo: 0.75" W x 1.1" H (1.9 cm x 2.8 cm); length of cord: 20" L (50.8 cm)
