Item Details

Description

An early George V silver swing-handle basket, the rounded rectangular form with gadroon rim enclosing a decorative pierced border to a plain centre, with reeded handle and raised on a rectangular footed base. Hallmarked John Henry Rawlings, London 1911. Length 11 inches (28 cm), weight 18.37 ozt (571.5 grams).

Condition

Displaying some general tarnishing and surface wear and some expected scratched marks and nicks commensurate with age and use. A few deeper scratches visible to the plain centre. Small repairs to pierced decoration, blobs of solder can be seen on reverse. The swing handle appears in working order but does not really self-support when in upright position. Hallmarked to base, these are clear and legible. Matching part hallmarks to handle, partly distorted by the decoration.
