Description
An interesting Near Eastern sharpening stone with linked chain, c. 1200 - 600 BC, or 'whet' stone, the rounded top with drilled hole containing a bronze suspension chain with eight remaining circular links. The sides of the stone are flattened and shows signs of extensive use. Stone itself measures: 3 5/8 x 2 7/8 in (9.2 x 7.3 cm), chain is 5 3/4 in (14.6 cm) in length. A fantastic example of a very important element to the soldier's gear of this time. Ex Hudson, MA private collection, acquired in Israel in the late 1960's.
