Description
Theophile Alexandre STEINLEN (1859-1923.) The Swiss born artist lived in the Montmartre district of Paris. Known for his iconic 1896 image, "Tournee du Chat Noir" (Black Cat,) that was created as a poster to customize advertisements for upcoming events at the cabaret of Rodolphe Salis. This vintage art lithograph print is plate signed and monogrammed in lower left, framed, and matted. Inscription naming the printer reads: "Imp. CHARLES VERNEAU. 114 Rue Oberkampf. Paris. Depose by Imprimerie Charles Verneau." The image measures 20" x 14.5 and with the framing, it is 31" x 25.5."
