DESCRIPTION: 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics torch. Designed by Peter Mastrogiannis. Made of aluminum and Georgia pecan wood With twenty-two reeds representing the cities that have hosted the modern summer games. The reeds are bound by two gilt brass rings. The bottom ring has the names of the cities and the top ring has the Atlanta torch logo and the quilt of leaves design. PROVENANCE: From the consigner's father, Alfonso "Al" Ugarte. Al was an employee of Panasonic, one of the 1996 Olympic Games sponsors. He was chosen by lottery among Panasonic employees to run a leg of the torch-lighting relay. MEASUREMENTS: 31-3/4" long. CONDITION: Light corrosion to some areas of metal. Scorching to top.
