Last half of the 19th century. The piece is of typical form having scrolling arms and paneled sides with slot for bible at the backside. H32 7/8" W56 1/2" D23" Note: This pew is said to have come from from the oldest Presbyterian church in Mecklenburg County , Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church. Founded in 1755, in 1765 the first pastor was Rev. Alexander Craighead. Craighead"is the true father of the famous Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, May 20 1775 more than a year before the National Declaration." The original church building was burned to the ground in 1870 and a new one constructed, this pew is from this new 1870 church.
