Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A lovely pair of gold earrings (71% gold - more than 14 karat gold) of an attractive design comprised of hemispheric shield forms with urn-shaped danglers that are further adorned by a pair of petite hemispheres, each with a central granule, to either side of the upper end, and a larger granule beneath the near spherical lower section. While many ancient Roman jewelry designs resembled those of the Greeks and the Egyptians, the hemispheric motif was a purely Roman creation. Size: 1.375" L (3.5 cm); weight: 2 grams
