Description
Original 20th c. Oil on Canvas, Amsterdam Street Scene c. 1980 by Carlos De La Vega (Portugal/Holland 20th c.). In carved gold leafed frame with forest green velvet liner and gilt molding. In Frame 15 1/2"x13 1/2"x2 1/2". Weight 3 pds. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate. Carlos De La Vega was born in Lisbon, Portugal, son of a Portoghese diplomatic officer. While still a teenager, his family moved to Amsterdam, where his father was assigned a diplomatic post. He studied art in Amsterdam and in Haarlem and upon graduation, he married a Dutch girl and remained in Holland where he still lives and paints. His paintings are Dutch school verism. He paints Amsterdam Street scenes in the traditional 18th-19th c. style using traditional Flemish brush strokes. Purchased at The House of Rubens, Art Dealers since 1898 on Old Saybrook, Connecticut.
