A CHINESE EXPORT TWO TONED GILT DECORATED BLACK LACQUERED CHEST ON LATER CARVED WOOD STAND, LATE 19TH CENTURY, with a rectangular hinged lid centering a warlord seated at a table with officials receiving a kneeling visitor, set amidst a terraced pavilion enclosure surrounded by smaller structures, interspersed with figures at various pursuits and bordered by scrolling tailed roaring dragons flanking flaming pearls within trim of delicately detailed long feathered plumes, above similarly decorated conforming sides and gilt metal bail form handles, opening to an interior framed by a flat rimmed lid and case with undulating foliate branches and gilt metal hardware stamped with stylized crowns over twice stamped, "PATHNT." Fair condition with expected wear of gilt areas throughout, cracked lacquered areas caused by shrinkage of underlying wood, backside surface replaced with a black painted paper panel that is cracked in areas, minor surface marks, tiny scratches, and small chips on some edges.
