Vintage 30s Mens Open Framed Octagonal Spectacles - Portage 3116 style “ and case ----- Here is a vintage pair of Mens rounded octagonal Portage 3116 Style Bifocal Spectacles from the 20s or 30s and case. They are marked Bali / 10 12k gf on the inside of the bridge area. The Ear and Nose pads appear to be Bakelite. The glasses show moderate signs of use and the Bakelite shows cracking. The case is in good condition and reads “ Styled by Snodgrass “ 2nd National Bldg “ Akron “ Portage 3116. It has a Made In USA stamp on the back with a equilateral triangle surrounded by a circle. The outer material appears to be a faux Alligator. The inner material is a green felt. True shaped octagonal frames date back to the first half of the 1920s. This octagonal shape frame with a round top came into popularity as early as 1931, when steel tycoon Ernest Weir was pictured on the cover of Life magazine sporting a pair.
