A finely painted Kangxi period porcelain tankard with a scene of a scholar and attendants.; A round porcelain body with applied handle and raised foot. The body has been hand painted with a scholar scene in polychrome enamels. The painting is very exact and refined. The foot is unglazed but the base is glazed. You can see the potter’s wheel marks under the glaze. The base glaze is very smooth and thick feeling. The mouth has an iron painted rim.; There are no maker marks or labels.; MEASUREMENTS; 4 7/8” (12.4 cm) tall x 3 ¾” (9.5 cm) diameter. Weighs 13.5 oz (380 g); CONDITION; There is a break in the handle that was reattached. There is a hairline in the glaze on the exterior by the handle, and another on the inside near the rim; however neither seem to go all the way, and so they are likely just be a flaw in the glaze. The tankard rings true. There is wear to the enamels, as well as loss to the gilding. The faces of the revelers are barely discernable. There is also a tiny rim chip on the iron painted mouth rim. There are kiln flaws such as black spots, pimples, and reserve spots.; An antique that will add richness and substance to a collection or décor. I love the small things like the applied ruyi on the handle. How amazing that the hand painting is so perfect.
