Dial: hand-painted white enamel dial, outer track with Arabic numeral seconds divisions designed for one revolution in four minutes, sub-register for time and timer at 12 o'clock with black Roman numerals and outer minute track to be used as 60-minute and 12-hour registers, Breguet hands, sunken sub-register for quarter seconds jump-timer at 6 o'clock, signed: American Watch of Waltham Mass Chronodrometer Patent Feb 8 1859
Movement: 16 jewel, #14797, size 18, key-wind and set, matte gilt finish, full plate, lateral lever escapement, solid gold monometallic three-arm balance, blued steel flat balance spring, engraved balance cock, start and stop function, signed: Appleton Tracy & Co. Waltham Mass
Case: coin silver hunter case by A.T.& Co., #12596, engine-turned hinged covers, front with a shield, back cover centering floral engraving, hinged cuvette with engine-turned border and apertures for winding and setting, button for chronodrometer start and stop function

Notes: The present lot is one of the first American machine-made sporting stopwatches. Patented by John K. Biglow of Waltham, approximately 400 examples were made according to Waltham Factory ledgers.
