Tiffany & Co. French silver and enamel gothic style table clock, attributed to Lucien-Clement Steiner, having a Gothic tower form, the spired and crocketed roof accented with gargoyles over a case featuring the obverse dial having a red enamel ground and silver Roman numerals, the reverse featuring a moon phase dial with centered planets and stars against the same red enamel ground, one side of the case with an owl, the other a rooster, the lower part featuring reserves depicting the four seasons, mounted on a shaped red marble base, the underside of the base bears an inscription reading: "Offert a Monsieur De La Fosse en 1878 Par Le Comte & La Comtessa Pinêt", 13.5"h; Provenance Sotheby's lot 341, Important Silver, Vertu, and Russian Works of Art, Oct. 23, 2013 Note: This clock can be compared to a very similar gilt one sold at Sotheby's Paris, lot 119, Nov. 25 2010, Important European Silver, Gold Boxes and Vertu. At the 1878 Paris Exposition, Lucien Falize exhibited exquisite clocks in this Gothic style, which brought him a gold medal. A gold and hardstone clock, by Lucien Falize that was part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's "European Decorative Arts at the World's Fair, 1850-1900" exhibition, undoubtedly served as an inspiration for Lucien-Clement Steiner who was a contemporary of Falize.
