Peter Green (British, b. 1933), "Sun Tower", an original woodcut and stencil. Dated 1969 CE. Numbered 17/30. Signature date, edition number, and title written in pencil below image. A striking color woodcut of an abstract totem comprised of geometric motifs in orange, yellow, and black - aptly entitled Sun Tower. Green enjoyed printing by hand, because it allowed him to explore the depth of a cut block and control degrees of pressure and tone. In addition, many examples of Green's work, including this example, employed the use of paper stencils. Green's technique involved rolling color through a cut stencil directly on the paper’s surface. Exhibiting from 1958 to the present day, Green's work is in the following collections: The Victoria and Albert Museum, Walker Art Gallery, Towner Art Gallery, Cecil Higgins Museum, Laing Art Gallery, South London Art Gallery, Birmingham City Art Gallery, University of Wales, National Gallery Kuala Lumpur, Museums of Detroit, Seattle and Pittsburg and numerous private collections. Green was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 1958, and in the 1960s and 1970s, he made a series of prints for London Graphic Arts.
