[SOULT NICOLAS JEAN DE DIEU]: (1769-1851) Marshal of France, Duc de Dalmatie. An interesting and lengthy contemporary manuscript, nineteen pages, 4to, being the transcriptions of the Cadiz Regency gazette and the Madrid gazette, dated 23rd January and 11th February 1813. The provenance being Marshal Soult´s own personal files. The manuscript mostly reports on the Spanish campaign, London news and Russian campaign. A lengthy part reports on British spies captured in the Morbihan, north of France, and a very interesting chapter reports on the Russian campaign, stating in part `..The French have been dislodged from Kowno after having lost 21 canons and 6000 men were imprisoned.-Marshal Macdonald planned returning through Tilsit.. Prussian peasants are assassinating all French drivers wherever they find them...´ Together with an original printed gazette of Madrid, four pages, folio, dated 23rd January 1813. A hard attack against Napoleon Bonaparte describing him as `..this odious biped that Corsica produced in its rocks to persecute us..´ About VG, 2 £100-150
