PARMENTIER ANTOINE AUGUSTIN: (1737-1813) French Agronomist well remembered for promoting the potato as a food source in France and Europe. Among his many other contributions to nutrition and health are the mandatory smallpox vaccination campaign under Napoleon. He also studied methods of conserving food, including refrigeration. Rare L.S., `Parmentier´, two pages, 4to, Paris, 30th July 1795, in French. The document is also signed by Nicolas Saucerotte (1741-1841) Surgeon of the King of Poland, and François Vergez fils (1769-1831) Army Chief Surgeon. The document bears an attractive small vignette. The three members of the Health Council respond to a request `..according to citizen Vernet´s opinion, chief surgeon of the Coast of Cherbourg army..´ Countersigned by Grosfier, Le Peux and Rufin.
