Mid 19th century, 88 x 64 cm, Central Anatolia

This very rare Konya yastik displays a field design we have not encountered in any other yastik. A ground of narrow, multi-coloured vertical stripes is traversed at right angles by even narrower horizontal stripes embellished with tiny crosses. The result is an amazingly colourful grid. The two vertical borders are decorated with different designs. The shield motifs in the light-red elems are a typical feature of rugs from the Konya region. – Somewhat reduced ends, slight damage to the sides, otherwise well preserved.
