MARY DIMMICK HARRISON (April 30, 1858-January 5, 1948) was the second wife Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd President of the United States. She was 25 years younger than Harrison and was the niece of his first wife. She first moved into the White House after her first husband’s death to serve as assistant to the First Lady. After Mrs. Harrison’s death, the former president and Mrs. Dimmick fell in love and announced their engagement in late 1895. She was 37 and he was 62. They married on April 6, 1896 at St. Thomas Protestant Episcopal Church in New York City.We’re offering a Free Frank cover signed “Mary Lord Harrison” with a postmark from Grand Central Station written on December 1, 1946, in her 86th year. Lord was her maiden name. On the verso, she has added an autograph note: “I am better and dressed every day. Mrs. D (nurse) still with me.”
Condition
Cover tear at the top affecting a portion of the “d” in her signature. Toning, some soiling and seal marks on verso, affecting two words in the note. Nice piece of Presidential Americana.
