A US 44-gun frigate Constitution (Old Ironsides) hand colored lithograph by artist Harold L. Wyllie (British, 1880-1975). A naval painter, Wyllie is a founding member of the Society for Nautical Research, with work in very distinguished institutions such as the Tate. This piece depicts The Constitution, who earned her name Old Ironsides during the war of 1812. The Constitution was commanded by Captains Isaac Hull, Williams Bainbridge and Charles Stewart (1812-1815). the print is pencil signed by both Harold Wyllie, sculptor to the lower right, and signed H. L. Wylie on the lower left.
