Large Carved Wood Statue of Saint Martin de Porres. Size: 60'' x 16'' x 17'' (152 x 41 x 43 cm). Carved from a single piece of wood by Sister Franceline Mallone, Philadelphia, 20th C. Martin de Porres Velazquez (December 9, 1579 - November 3, 1639), was a Peruvian lay brother of the Dominican Order who was beatified in 1837 by Pope Gregory XVI and canonized in 1962 by Pope John XXIII. He is the patron saint of mixed-race people, barbers, innkeepers, public health workers, and all those seeking racial harmony. Provenance: Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Bensalem, Pennsylvania.
