Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 360 to 325 BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown pottery skyphos with a ringed footed base, gradually-expanding walls, a thin rim, and a pair of applied parabolic handles. The majority of the vessel is coated in a lustrous jet-black glaze, with areas around the interior, exterior, and beneath the foot presenting an unglazed, buffware color. Size: 7.2" W x 3.75" H (18.3 cm x 9.5 cm).

Condition
Vessel repaired on one side from a few large pieces with some small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, fading to some areas of glaze, and minor chips to rim, handles, body, and foot. Light earthen deposits and scattered areas of silver iridescence throughout. Old inventory label beneath foot.
