Item Details
Description
“Si amanece, nos Vamos.” is an etching with aquatint burnished on laid down paper done by Francisco Goya in 1799. It is Plate 71 from the series of eighty prints by Goya entitled “Los Caprichos” that he completed between 1797 and 1799. It came from the
personal collection of Harry Guggenheim, noted businessman and philanthropist.
The title means “When day breaks, we will be off” and is another satire from the series
“Los Caprichos” by Goya. The images depict a last cabal of sorcerers and witches, just before the light of dawn. This Capricho represents the ignorance of Spanish society in believing in demons; Goya views that as a slap in the face of rational human dignity;
people take that dignity and dishonor it with their beliefs, and that deforms the beauty of
life.
It is framed and matted;
the frame size is 16 3/4” h x 13” w and
sight size is 7 3/4” h x5 5/8” w.
