Description
Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. This stunning example proves that a piece does not have to be large to be exceptional. Terracotta / earthenware amulet in the form of an actor's mask in full 360%. Showing where it is attached to the head of the actor, hollow-molded with drilled eyes and large open mouth, straight rows of hair on the reverse and expressive facial features on the front; small suspension loop on upper rear. So incredibly rare and amazing that this survived in such pristine condition! Size: .625" H (1.6 cm); 1.125" H (2.9 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-Richard Wagner collection, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA, acquired in the 1970s
