Description
Rare Iris glaze scenic vase with birch trees at twilight done in 1911 by Kataro Shirayamadani. The little brother of the fine Shirayamadani scenic pictured in "From Our Native Clay" (number 47) this vase has no condition issues and only a few nearly invisible craze lines just below the rim. Marked with the Rookwood logo, date, shape 1658 E, an impressed V for Vellum, an impressed "1" above the logo and the incised Japanese cypher of the artist. Height is 7 3/4 inches. Exceptional color and composition with almost photorealistic treatment.
