Carved wood, paint, coin from the reign of King Edward VIII (1936-1937) on forehead
9" x 12" x 16"
Provenance: Allan Stone Collection, New York
Neighbors to the Igbo, the Ibibio live in Eastern Nigeria in an area between the Niger River delta and the Cross River in villages led by a chief elected from among important families. Ibibio social life is regulated by three secret societies which incorporate masks into their annual ceremonies.
