Description

Encased Korean Woodblock Book Press: Large double sided woodblock book press encased in a glass and wood display from Korea. The press is carved with Chinese characters. Dimensions are: 22" wide X 9 3/4" tall for the block and 25 1/2" tall X 15 7/8" wide. All measurements are approximate.
Provenance: From the family estate of Leaford C. Williams of Washington D.C. Williams was born on in 1924 in Jamaica. He came to the United States in 1948 where he had a successful career as a foreign service officer, a public affairs officer and as the assistant to director White House Conference on Small Business. He was stationed in Taegu, Korea, and was a cultural attache in Bombay, India. He also served as a public affairs officer American Embassy, Seoul, Korea. In addition to his service, Williams authored several books. Condition: There is a staple repair to a crack in the woodblock. The case is worn.
