4to (274 x 207 mm). Engraved folding map, 2 lithographed folding plates, in-text woodcut vignette illustrations. (Lacking half-title, minor foxing on preliminaries.) Contemporary polished russia gilt (rebacked preserving original endpapers). Provenance: George Rentz (signature on title-page).

FIRST EDITION of the account of Buckingham's travels through Asia Minor from Aleppo to Baghdad in 1816. "It is full of lively descriptions and sympathetic characters" (Blackmer). Allibone I, p. 277; Blackmer 233.
