Description
HILTED SMALL SWORD. Overall length: 39 1/2". Blade length: 31 7/8". Colichemarde style blade has engraving extending 6" up from the hilt. An exceptional solid silver hilt that is decorated throughout w/ musical instrument & a knotted motif. Guard is stamped at the ricasso "I.R" along w/ a lion passant. Knuckle bow is stamped near the pommel w/ "I(pellet)R", lion passant, crowned leopard & script "I". These marks denote that the hilt was made by John Radburn of sterling silver in London during the year 1764. Grip is solid silver in a simulated braided wire wrap form. Pommel is hollow & intricately decorated w/ musical instruments. Scabbard appears to be 2 piece tinned iron w/ a fine black leather covering. Throat is silver w/ attached suspension ring. Throat is engraved "LOXHAMS, Royal Exchange" on 1 side & has repousse musical instruments on the other. CONDITION: blade has a light gray, slightly mottled cleaned finish. Silver hilt has a bright finish w/ tarnish in the recessed areas. Scabbard has a separation internally at the midpoint of the tinned iron liner causing a sm. separation to the black leather covering. Throat has expected minor dents & dings. Silver tip is missing. (02-10548/BF). $1,800-2,300.
