Description
Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Oligocene to Miocene, ca. 25 million years ago. An ovoid amber nugget containing a preserved cockroach, cricket, and chironomid (fly). Resin from the extinct tree Hymenaea protera is the source of Dominican amber; it is especially fine for preserving prehistoric flora and fauna because, unlike Baltic amber, it is transparent. Size: 1.25" W (3.2 cm)
