Description
Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century BCE. A group of four pretty stone intaglio cabochons. Three depict men's heads in profile, the fourth a standing goddess who may be Demeter holding a bundle of wheat. Two are a dark red, partly translucent stone that appears to be garnet; a third is brick red, nearly opaque carnelian; the last is a pearly-colored stone, probably agate. Size: 0.4" H (1 cm)
