A PAIR OF OLD HALL EARTHENWARE CO., LTD. AESTHETIC STYLE GILT DECORATED GLAZED EARTHENWARE VASES ON STAND, HANLEY, STOKE-ON-TRENT, ENGLAND, CIRCA 1884-1890, the baluster form vases with strapwork style gilt handles centering a flaring floriform neck with embossed acanthus leaf and scroll decoration, the red ground body with tooled gilt prunus branch and bird decoration, with spreading gilt foot, the cylindrical stands with matching ground and trailed prunus branch decoration between molded gilt borders, with transfer printed "castle" mark and "Stafford" knot containing "1790" (date of company formation). Height: 19 7/8" Width: 8 1/8" Depth: 6 7/8" NOTE: From 1884 until 1886 Dr. Christopher Dresser was associated with the Old Hall Earthenware Co., providing designs for transfer printed wares reflecting his interest in Japanese design.
