Description
A GEORGE II PERIOD WALNUT AND CARVED GILTWOOD WALL MIRROR, CIRCA 1735-1750, with carved gilt wood swan's neck pediment with acanthus blossom and swirled leaf flourish centering a winged griffin perched upon a weeping tree, the edges with carved scroll lappet filled molding with carved applied pendant leaves to each side, centering silvered mirror plate contained within shaped carved lappet molding, with pieced figured walnut. Height: 50 1/2" Width: 27 1/2"
Condition
In overall fair condition with extensive regilding/repainting and significant loss to original plaster or boulle substructure, walnut in overall good condition, evidence of reattachment of pendant leaf moldings, mirror plate possibly a later replacement.
