WILLIAM PITTS (British 18th Century) AND JOSEPH PREEDY (British 18th Century) A GEORGE III STERLING SILVER EPERGNE, LONDON, CIRCA 1793-1794, the graduated oval shape two-tier frame with navette form removable bowl with reeded rim and reticulated border, engraved with a crest consisting of a boulder over beribboned motto "VINCERE VEL MORI," the upper tier with a cast and chased laurel leaf and berry border with four curved supports with scrolled acanthus leaf decoration, with sockets for acanthus leaf sheathed scrolled arms with oval sockets fitted with small versions of the navette form bowl, the lower tier with cast openwork border and four additional sockets fitted with navette form bowls, the center of the tier engraved with the coat of arms of McNeill of Colonsay and Gronsay, raised on four cast and chased hairy paw foot legs issuing acanthus leaves, the legs joined by bellflower swags with pendant oval figural medallions, stamped (leopard's head crowned), (lion passant), (duty mark), "WP (over) IP," "s," and later engraved "JGM KKR, 8-13-85" on the underside of the lower tier, total approximate silver weight: 119.18 troy ounces. Condition
In overall fair to good gently used condition with evidence of repaired splits along the borders of the bowls, rubbing to engraved crests, surface scratching and rubbing commensurate with age and use.
